Many of us are always so busy with our own activities that our kids seem to be sitting on the sidelines alone. Here is a chance for you to get your kids involved. Baking or cooking as a family offers you a chance to create special memories of you having fun with the kids while creating something good to eat. Sit down with your kids and let them choose the recipe they want to make. Take them to the store to pick up the ingredients needed so they will see how much the items will cost. This to is a chance for you to teach them about comparison shopping and how to clip coupons. You can also teach them about prepackaged foods. When purchasing prepackaged food, you are paying a much higher price because of the convenience the item offers you. The kids will see that you can purchase more when you do the preparation yourself.
Another skill your kids will learn is math. Baking reinforces many of the skills learned in math class. For instance you will need to measure the ingredients accurately for the recipe to turn out right. You will learn about fractions, counting, measuring, and sorting the ingredients as you prepare your recipe.
Another very important skill kids will learn is how to work together. Each child will need to be assigned a special task to preform and as the recipe is being put together the child will have to learn to be patient and wait his turn, cooperate with the other siblings, and make the time in the kitchen a joint effort.
The best part of baking together is the reward that follows once the item has been baked. You all get to enjoy the treats. You just might want to envite a friend or two.
