Each and everyone of us have been told that "God gives us only what he thinks we can handle." Last week, my husband was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of brain cancer--Glioblastoma Multi-forme. This cancer has no cure, nor can radiation and drugs hold it a bay for very long. Some of the symptoms include, dizziness all of the time, numbness in the face, ringing in the ears, passing out, stinging in the tongue and lips.

Can you imagine going to work one day and then in the afternoon you are told you have a tumor that can not be cured nor can it be removed. You are told that if you do not seek treatment you will be dead before Christmas. This is exactly what happened to Richard Raeker on October 5th. Here is a young man only 48 years old who works hard, gives his life to serve others whether it be at the community level or helping with church functions and many organizations that all benefit others. This is a man who puts all he has into what ever he does.
Richard started treatment on October 27th, Tuesday evening. He is receiving Chemotherapy drugs call Temadar with medicine to control nausea and an antibiotic to control infections. He also has to take a steriod to help control the swelling of the brain. Chemotherapy is seven days a week for 42 days straight. Next, we report to the Coborn Cancer Center in St. Cloud to recieve radiation treatment in hopes that the combination will kill the cancer and allow Richard to get better. He has this treatment 5 days a week. All of this is very tiring and sometimes very nauseating for Richard. Not everything agrees with him. Things that were his favorites now cause him to throw-up. He will receive radiation five days a week for six weeks. Lets keep praying this will give him a chance for a few good years.
